The faint marks are every other quest objective recorded in this zone. There is no zone artwork here, so they stand in for the coastline: quests only send you where the zone is walkable.
Standing there and seeing nothing?
- verified. Transcribed from a primary source: a Blizzard post, patch note, or the game itself. This quest's markers are on 2 maps: Dalaran, Hall of the Guardian.
- practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong.Open your own quest log map. If the game draws no marker there, you are not in the phase for it, and that is definitive. Trust the game over us, and tell us in the comments so we can record it.
What To Do
Complete the quest objective shown in your tracker, then return to the turn-in NPC.
Quest Text
Archmage Vargoth's involvement with the Empyrean Society is troubling. However, as he has proven his loyalty to the Kirin Tor many times, we must give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Still, I am obligated to share our concerns with the rest of the Council. You had best travel to Dalaran and meet with them in the Violet Citadel. I will remain here to care for our old friend.
Plan the run before you travel
Check the quest area, faction, and level range before you travel. If this quest is part of a chain, finish nearby campaign quests in the same zone first.
Check the exact quest giver and turn-in records above first. Use this page's community comments for phase changes, cave entrances, spawn timing, and corrections from the live game.
No group size is listed by Blizzard, so this is usually soloable unless the objective text says otherwise.
Pin the quest in-game, enable objective outlines, then use the exact-title references in the archive for NPC or object coordinates. Add a correction below if the live game differs from this record.
Objectives and map pin
Blizzard's public API publishes a quest's text and rewards but not its objectives, its own level, whether it can be shared, or any map coordinate. Nobody has synced quest 42416 yet, so there is nothing to show here rather than a guess. Running the WowGodSync addon while you play contributes those fields for everyone.
Check it in game
Quest completion is stored per character on Blizzard's side and is not in the public API, so paste this in your chat box and it prints true or false for “The Council is in Session” on the character you are logged into.
/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(42416))/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompletedOnAccount(42416))A false also comes back for a quest id the client does not know, so it means “not recorded as complete” rather than proof the quest exists on your account.
