What changed for this spec
Patch 12.1 swaps Rampant Ferocity and Merciless Claws in Gate 1 of the talent tree. Blizzard says much of Feral's AOE comes from Rampant Ferocity, which raid builds were not taking, so the swap is meant to make it reachable there, at the cost of making Merciless Claws harder to take in some builds. Everything else is tuning aimed at talent diversity: all damage up 3%, Rampant Ferocity up 25%, Chomp up 30%, Saber Jaws to 60% per point, Rip and Tear to 20%, Merciless Claws to 25%, Taste for Blood to 16% plus 8% in Tiger's Fury; Blood Spattered rises to 8% per stack but caps at 6, while Focused Frenzy drops to 15% and Apex Predator's Craving's base chance to 4%. Shred and Cat Form Swipe gain 10%.
One thing on this page names an ability the patch changed
These are flagged, not corrected. Rewriting a priority list needs a source this page does not have, so what is shown is where the guide and the patch notes disagree.
- Rampant Ferocity (talents) The notes say "Merciless Claws and Rampant Ferocity have swapped positions in the talent tree." The developer note adds that "To make it easier to take Rampant Ferocity in raid builds we are swapping its position with Merciless Claws in Gate 1." Any tree position or gating described for this talent in the guide no longer matches.

Not re-verified for Season 2. This ordering was checked for patch 12.0.7. Patch 12.1 raised max-level player health and creature damage by 25% and deliberately moved power out of cooldowns into steady-state damage, either of which can move secondary weights. Open question: no Season 2 sim source has been checked, so the order below is last season's and is shown unchanged rather than guessed at.
Stat priority and consumables
Item level and effect strength still matter. Use this ordering to break close choices, then re-check it after major gear swaps.
- 1.Agility
- 2.Critical Strike
- 3.Mastery
- 4.Haste
- 5.Versatility
Agility is always best per point. Mastery (Razor Claws) directly boosts every bleed, and Crit increases both direct and bleed damage while feeding Berserk. Haste smooths energy regen but sits below Crit and Mastery. Weights shift with tier and talents - sim your own character.
Flasks, food, potions, weapon oils, and runes for this build.
Priority order is from patch 12.0.7 and has not been re-derived for 12.1. Individual lines naming an ability that 12.1 removed or redesigned are annotated above; lines that 12.1 only retuned are unchanged, because a damage number moving does not by itself reorder a priority list.
Opener and priority
Use these as decision priorities, not a rigid cast sequence. Re-evaluate whenever targets, resources, procs, or mechanics change.
Core principles
- Avoid wasting resources: Energy specs have a finite budget for any window of time - do not waste it through misuse of Tiger's Fury or natural overcapping.
- Maintain debuffs: Rip, Rake, and (if talented) Moonfire are the most energy-efficient spells Feral has.
- Sync your cooldowns: Feral runs several cooldowns of differing lengths - sync them together as much as possible without losing uses.
WildstalkerSingle-target priorities are maintaining debuffs and converting spare resources into direct damage; the two hero trees play almost identically in single target and differ mainly in AoE filler.
Single-target priority
- 1.Ferocious Bite - with Apex Predator's Craving procs
- 2.Rip - at 5 combo points if it is missing or in pandemic, with Tiger's Fury active - or if Tiger's Fury will not be back before the DoT expires
- 3.Ferocious Bite - at 5 combo points and 50 energy while Rip is active - inside Berserk first, outside Berserk second
- 4.Berserk + Convoke the Spirits - synced with Tiger's Fury
- 5.Dump energy - if Tiger's Fury comes off cooldown within 3 seconds and you are above 80% energy
- 6.Tiger's Fury - on cooldown
- 7.Rake - if missing or in pandemic, if you would increase the snapshot strength, or at 2 seconds or less remaining with Tiger's Fury not ready
- 8.Moonfire - if missing or in pandemic, if you would increase the snapshot strength, or at 2 seconds or less remaining with Tiger's Fury not ready
- 9.Shred - to generate combo points
AoE priority
- 1.Ferocious Bite - with Apex Predator's Craving procs
- 2.Primal Wrath - if Rip is missing or in pandemic
- 3.Berserk - synced with Tiger's Fury; Convoke the Spirits joins the same window
- 4.Ferocious Bite - at 5 combo points while Rip is active
- 5.Tiger's Fury - on cooldown - you can delay up to 2 seconds if Frantic Frenzy would come off cooldown just after it ends
- 6.Feral Frenzy - on cooldown
- 7.Swipe - with Clearcasting procs, up to 7 targets
- 8.Rake - if it is missing or in pandemic
- 9.Swipe - to generate combo points
Opener
- 1.Rake from stealth.
- 2.Cast Moonfire.
- 3.Shred to 5 combo points.
- 4.Cast Berserk and Tiger's Fury.
- 5.Cast Rip.
- 6.Cast Convoke the Spirits.
- 7.Cast Ferocious Bite after Convoke the Spirits.
- 8.Cast Feral Frenzy.
- 9.Ferocious Bite at 5 combo points and 50 energy, Shred to generate combo points during Berserk.
Druid of the ClawSame single-target priority as Wildstalker; the Berserk window is a significant portion of your damage because Claw Rampage generates extra Ravage procs, which changes the AoE filler.

Pre-combat checks
- Cast group buffs: Mark of the Wild for you and your party.
- Shapeshift: be in Cat Form - your abilities only work in Cat Form.
- Be in Prowl: start combat from stealth to maximize damage from Pouncing Strikes.
- Consumables: flask and Agility food, weapon oils, plus a Healthstone and Silvermoon Health Potion.
Major cooldowns
Berserk
- A flat damage increase plus a free combo point every 1.5 seconds, and your generators produce an extra combo point.
- While active you gain a combo point buffer: points over the cap of 5 convert into a buff, and when you spend back to 0, the buff converts into combo points.
- Incarnation: Avatar of Ashamane replaces Berserk with the same effects for 20 seconds, plus 25% reduced energy costs and one in-combat use of Prowl.
- With Coiled to Spring, the buffer effect does not trigger until you exceed the overflow combo points.
- For Druid of the Claw, the Berserk window is a huge slice of total damage - Claw Rampage generates significant extra Ravage procs.
Advanced tips
Pandemic and snapshotting
- Feral's pace is set by resources rather than GCDs - you will sometimes wait on energy rather than pressing a button every global, and that is correct play.
- Pandemic: refreshing a DoT adds up to 30% of its base duration to the new cast. Refreshing a 15-second Rake with 5 seconds left carries just under 5 seconds forward - but only duration carries; the snapshot resets for the newly applied DoT.
- Snapshotting: DoTs applied during Tiger's Fury or Pouncing Strikes keep that buff's effect for their full duration, even after the buff itself expires - which is why Rip and Rake want to go out under Tiger's Fury.
Import strings were built for patch 12.0.7 and have NOT been re-verified for 12.1. Nobody authoritative publishes import strings, so none was rewritten here rather than invented. Patch 12.1 moved or removed talents in several trees, so a string may import a build that no longer exists. Check the listed key talents against the 12.1 changes above before importing.
Talents and hero trees
Use Druid of the Claw for the single-target profile below and Wildstalker when cleave or adds make its toolkit more valuable.
Recommended starting profiles
Single-target: Druid of the Claw
Druid of the Claw adds Ravage and Dreadful Wound for the strongest single-target bleed damage.

Multi-target: Wildstalker
Wildstalker leans on Thriving Growth and bloodseeker synergy for multi-target bleed pressure.

Talent builds
Start with the profile matching your content. Boss and dungeon tabs in the gear section show the exact loadout used for each ranked result. A build with no import string has not had one exported for this patch; the key talents below are the build.
Raid - Single Target (Bloodtalons)
Your default for pure boss fights. Bloodtalons empowers your finishers, and Apex Predator's Craving turns Ferocious Bite procs into free, big Ferocious Bites. Snapshot Tiger's Fury into Rip.
M+ - Cleave & AoE (Primal Wrath)
Swap to this on cleave and add fights. Primal Wrath spreads Rip to everything, Adaptive Swarm amplifies your bleeds, and Rampant Ferocity turns finishers into AoE damage.

Editorial acquisition targets
Use these slot targets when planning drops and crafted pieces. The encounter explorer above remains the source for the exact gear worn by each ranked player.
Season 1 acquisition targets, not re-verified for Season 2. The rows below name Season 1 items at their Season 1 item levels and are accurate as that; they are not Season 2 recommendations. Season 2's raid is The Venomous Abyss (8 bosses, Nek'zali the Soulcoiler through Ula'tek). Confirmed Season 2 raid item levels run 279 (Raid Finder, first boss) to 344 (Mythic, last two bosses and Very Rare drops), with Normal 292-302, Heroic 305-315 and the Great Vault paying 292/305/318/334 by difficulty. Open question: per-slot best-in-slot for Season 2 needs a sim source, and none was reachable.
Raid acquisition targets
Season 1 acquisition targets, not re-verified for Season 2. The dungeons named below are the Season 1 pool and are not in Season 2 rotation. Season 2 runs Altar of Fangs (new in 12.1), Murder Row, Den of Nalorakk, The Blinding Vale, Voidscar Arena, Temple of Sethraliss, Kings' Rest and Ruby Life Pools. Confirmed Season 2 keystone item levels: +2 through +3 pay 295 end-of-run and 305 in the vault, rising to 311 end-of-run and 318 in the vault at +10 and above. Open question: per-slot best-in-slot for Season 2 needs a sim source, and none was reachable.

Enchants
Choose enhancements after your equipment is settled. Secondary-stat enchant choices move with your current stat mix and the content you are preparing for.
Gems
Socket into the current stat priority, then re-check after major equipment swaps rather than treating a gem choice as permanent.
Embellishments
Crafted effects are capped at two equipped embellishments. Lock these in only after deciding which crafted slots survive your next raid or Mythic+ upgrades.
Utility, defensives, and movement
Your Druid toolkit is part of the rotation whenever it prevents lost uptime, lethal damage, or an enemy cast.
Rebirth is a combat battle rez and Stampeding Roar is a group movement speed burst.

/cast [@focus,harm,nodead][] Skull BashWritten for patch 12.0.7. Patch 12.1 increased max-level player health and creature damage by 25% and made crowd-control diminishing returns reset after 20 seconds instead of 16, so defensive timing and crowd-control advice on this page is the most likely to have moved. What improves results
- Snapshot Rip under Tiger's Fury for a stronger bleed
- Never let Rip fall off a target you are staying on
- Pool Energy before Tiger's Fury so none is wasted
- Use Primal Wrath on 3 or more targets instead of single Rips
Common mistakes
- Clipping Rip early
- Capping Energy
- Ferocious Bite under 5 combo points or below 25 Energy
- Letting bleeds drop
